For Nillumbik Council, Sugarloaf Ward October 2020

My name is Ben Ramcharan and I’m running for Sugarloaf Ward in this year’s Council Election.

I love living here in North Warrandyte, in such close proximity to Research, Kangaroo Ground, St. Andrews, Bend of Islands and Christmas Hills. I have been involved in many local committees, including the Warrandyte Community Association and Friends of Nillumbik, helping to run campaigns on issues such as protecting the Green Wedge and neighbourhood character, improving road safety and tackling the Climate Emergency. I’m passionate about making this area a safer and even better place for all of us to live. This is why I’m running for council.

I believe that it’s extremely important for a councillor to listen to and respect their community’s point of view. The current council has failed to do this and has, in fact, often undertaken public consultation only to completely disregard the results. Witnessing this first-hand has been a big motivation for me to run for council. I want to be a councillor who actively reaches out to you, and who genuinely takes action on the issues that matter to you. Good decisions are made when we ask the community what they want and the experts how it can be done, and I plan to do this every step of the way.

I will prioritise protecting our local environment and local character. I will also work as hard as I can to improve on issues which the community has raised with me such as drainage, road safety, local trails and paths and financial management.

I’m committed to listening to my community and I will work as hard as I can to represent you if I’m elected as your local Councillor in the upcoming Nillumbik Council Elections.
